Well.....it could have been worse....much worse....

Man oh man! Today has been a day.....definitely didn't spend it the way I was hoping to!

Well....I'm sitting her at home....little tired.....little sore....and guess what.....without a car!

What in the world!....you all say.....Well let me fill you in!

Today on my lovely little commute to work......I was traveling down good ol' Highway 89. Just driving along like I do every single work day. Minding my own business....listening to the radio....thinking of things I need to get done that day.

On my little drive this morning I'm in the left lane just going along with the rest of traffic. Now I can't tell you what other people are thinking...but it must have gone something like this.... The fine little fellow in front of me (he was actually not very nice) decided at the last possible minute that he needed to make a left hand turn (well actually a U turn cuz there is nowhere to turn left)....therefore....slamming on his breaks and guess what....not bothering to get in the turning lane.....just stopping on the highway. Well with seconds to think.....I too slammed on my breaks....(let's say I burned some serious rubber) and tried to swerve...but unfortunately he stopped way too fast and....BAM...I hit the back of his car head on. OUCH!!!!

Well it all happened so quick...that with in seconds my car was in the median and I was a crying mess! I turned my emergency lights on and just sat for second and realized that I felt okay. I looked at my car. You couldn't see out the windshield because the hood was all smashed up, but it smelled really funny and I could see a lot of smoke coming out. I pushed my car door open (it wouldn't open very well..it had buckled) and immediately called Levi and I guess because of my concern for others ran over to the other guy to see if he was okay. He was, but of course rude to me.

Well as I'm crying on the phone to Levi...this super nice stranger pulls over (sidenote: no one stopped when the accident happened...everyone just drove off). He comes over to me...asks how I'm doing and tells me he will call the police for me. He then tells me he is going to run over the other guy to make sure he is okay. Just like before...this nice stranger comes over to me and says the guy is fine but is being a jerk. Well this stranger waits with me until the police arrive and then goes on his way.
The two state troopers show up...one to get my story and paperwork and the other to get the other guys. This officer was also very nice and considerate to me....gave him my info and told him my story. The other officer came over (she was nice too)...and guess what...the other guy was being a meanie and they were having trouble getting him to fill out the paperwork and whatnot. So...they kept asking me what happened so they could figure out what to do with the situation.
Well to make a long story short.....we finally got all the paperwork done. The ambulance showed up and of course since I'm pregnant....they checked me out (except, once again they guy was rude and said they had to check him out first and that he needed to be transported to the hospital.....so I had to wait) ....the EMT guy was super nice (told me he had delivered 6 babies in situations like this!!) ....told me that I was just fine and so is my baby....but that I need to contact by DR asap to let them know. The layton officer that I also dealt with was nice and gave me all my paperwork I would need to give to the insurance company and told me my car is considered undrivable (the other guys car was actually in pretty good shape...it was marked as drivable for the insurance) so he got me a tow truck and then guess what.....I didn't get a ticket! No citation for me! Technically I could have been ticketed for following too close or whatever...but I'm assuming the officer just realized that I wasn't out to get this guy and that it was just an unavoidable accident for me. You just don't plan on someone slamming on their breaks out of nowhere on the highway when everyone is going anywhere from 55-70mph.

Well my sister and her husband Clay came and picked me up.....I got in really quick to see my midwife (this, to them, was considered an emergency)....she did an ultrasound....said that little Baby J is doing just fine...but she wanted me to have my blood drawn for some tests cuz I have A- blood and she was worried about the blood mixing or something like that. (Levi is positive). Chico (my sis) took me to Mckay Dee...they did some blood work.....then the women's center called me a few hours later and told me that my tests came back negative so everything was just fine.

All together...it could have been much worse. There was a story in the news, maybe a month ago, about a guy who ran into a lady's car who was pregnant.....killed the baby and sent her the hospital in critical condition. So, granted my car will be either in the shop for a while...or considered totaled and I will need to buy a new car and my insurance is going to go up...and I'm a little shaken up......but hey....I'm fine....and that's what really matters.
