Smile!

Today my lovely little Daewoo ...Lil' Luny, as I like to call her....is in the shop getting some work done. Therefore... I got a rental so I could still go to work.

Now I was thinking I would just get some basic sedan car or whatever...but when I got to the rental place....guess what my two options were? A super HUGE heavy duty 4-door Chevy Truck....or a Dodge Minivan. What? I couldn't even get into the truck....heaven forbid...I'm just over 5 ft tall and I'm 7 months pregnant!!

You know what that means? I'm rockin' the minivan today. Never in a million years did I ever dream I would drive a minivan. After the initial shock, however.....granted it's a stinkin' brand new car....it really wasn't that bad to drive. It took my a good 20 minutes to figure out all the buttons and gadgets on it and just get it to go! Levi, though, would rather have me hang pink floral wallpaper all over our house long before he would ever own a minivan. Oh well...that's okay. (He's on this silly Yukon/GMC trip...thanks to my dear neighbor and his boss!)

Anyways....the real point of this post.
I dropped my car off @ 7:30AM this morning. The guy who I handed my keys to, commented on the fact that I was all smiles for so early on a cold morning. When he asked me why...I really didn't have an answer for him. I just figured...well I've got nothing to be miserable about....so why not smile.
Then the rental people came and picked me up and took me to their location so I could get set up w/a rental car. Both of the guys that I worked with there also commented on the fact that I was all "chipper" and happy for a cold early morning and having to deal with an expensive repair on my car. I once again...was just like ...well such is life....why be miserable?
While I was waiting....there was one of those motivational/thought posters on the wall and the quote on it said.....
"The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude."
I liked that so much that I hurry and wrote it down in my planner. How true is that? Attitude is everything.
I starting thinking about how many choices we make and how all those choices affect us...and those around us. Smiles are contagious. The fact that I chose to smile this morning ...I affected at least three people....I made them smile. I affected myself...I've been happy all day.
What a happier world we would all live in if people just chose to smile every once in a while. If people didn't let their attitudes control them...but they controlled their attitudes.
Life isn't perfect...bad things, unfortunate things... and just darn stupid things happen to good people. Like how part of my darn siding on my house blew off the other night. (Thank you Chay for fixing it for me!) I have that popular quote on my fridge that says something like....life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.
This just serves as a good reminder to me that I and only I am in control of myself and how I choose to represent myself to those around me. It never hurts to have a good attitude. You never know who you will affect....even if it's only yourself.
